Celebrating our Client’s 90th Year in Business

We had the pleasure of joining Two Gates Fisheries in Shafton, Barnsley, as they celebrated an incredible milestone of 90 years in business. Since 1935, this family-founded fish and chip shop has been serving the community, and we were invited along to capture the celebrations and create social media content to mark the occasion. We also brought back to the studio a fryers jacket made especially for the day, to add to our client souvenir collection.

The story of Two Gates Fisheries goes back to 1935, when brothers Roland and Douglas Saunders built the shop specifically to serve fish and chips. Through the decades, it’s been a staple of village life. Their history is woven into both the business and the wider story of Britain: Roland left to fight in the Second World War, serving on the Normandy Front, while Douglas stayed behind to keep the shop running. When Roland returned home, he joined his brother once again to carry on the family business.

Celebrating in True Style

For their 90th anniversary, Two Gates treated their customers to a day full of nostalgia and community spirit. The first 90 customers through the door enjoyed cod and chips for just 90p, while everyone after that got 20% off the full menu for the rest of the day. The celebrations were supported by their suppliers, Dennis Crooks Fish Merchants and T Quality Ltd, who sponsored the event and even brought along a huge chocolate cake for everyone to share.

We loved being part of this milestone event, not just to enjoy some amazing fish and chips, but also to help tell their story visually. We spent the day on-site capturing photography and video for social media, showcasing both the history and the atmosphere of the celebration. From smiling customers tucking into 90p cod and chips, to the proud team behind the counter, the day was full of energy and local pride.

A Milestone That Means More

Running a business isn’t easy, especially in today’s climate. That’s why reaching 90 years in business is such a massive achievement. It speaks to the hard work, resilience, and community spirit that have carried Two Gates Fisheries through generations. At Wilkin Design, nothing makes us happier than seeing our clients succeed and being part of that journey. Whether it’s through design, branding, or social media, we love helping businesses tell their stories and reach more people.

Ninety years is an incredible achievement for any business, and Two Gates Fisheries has more than earned its place as a historic icon in Shafton. We’re proud to have been part of their anniversary celebrations, helping them share their story with the community and beyond.
